Of all things it's rather fun! More importantly

I was surprised to find myself enjoying this book. Of all things it's rather fun! More importantly, it seems to cut to the quick of how to prepare for the GRE. In particular this book sis valuable for its analysis of what GRE words are in vogue with those awful hipsters at ETS: They include recent words, as well as their "parade" of vocab that has filtered in and out over the decades.

I like how it's structured and has sections taking different approaches to the vocabulary. I took the warm-up tests and then went straight to the section of word roots! I've generally liked etymology, and from that alone I picked up some very pleasing insights that I am sure will stick with me, even come the end of exam I utterly disgorge my skull of most words I will learn herein and promptly replace them with malt liquor.

This book is a great book. It is a condensed version of his life... Instead of reading too much into boring details you get the quick fast pace version in a great, easy to read novel. The author has obviously done great research of his subject. Do not listen to these other reviews which are obviously from people who hate Bill Gates. Lovely!

Read on December 12, 2012 -- I own a copy

Pop up books always provide plenty to look at and seemingly something new each time. However I'm always hesitant to get one because those with pull, push, and turn levers always tear and do not last. This is a hearty book with double thick flaps on each side of the dual pages that open like curtains on the stage. Simple flaps that will last and not tear easily if handled appropriately.

I love this book and I'm completely enchanted. I definitely wouldn't mind adding others of Jane Rey's creatively shaped books to my shelf. My three year old is getting to be familiar with various fairy tales and Cinderella is one of them and thus this book had her open mouthed and silently just watching. She was watching and examining each page looking to see what was going on and coming next. It's an experience and a memory not soon to be forgotten.

The book is suggested for ages five and up and while I'll let my preschooler look at it with me I would not leave it out unsupervised less she get to curious and think something "should move". This book would make a great addition to anyone's shelf and an excellent gift.

"How Do I Get a Change of Heart--For Someone Else?"

Popular LDS speaker John Bytheway tells of a woman asking how she could get her husband to change for the better. At the time he had no good answer for her. Upon reflection, he offers his best answer to readers of this book.

Bytheway begins by reminding us that we shouldn't--and really can't--force someone to change. He cites the Doctrine and Covenants 121:41-42 guidance to replace coercion with persuasion, long-suffering, gentleness, meekness, love unfeigned, and kindness. Both partners in a marriage should invite the Spirit into their relationship. Bytheway distinguishes between a covenant marriage, in which each partner dedicates their all to success, and a contract marriage, where each selfishly defends their own interests.

Consistent with these principles, the author makes specific suggestions, many taken from church leaders and family counselors. Avoid the toxic trap of criticism and sarcasm. Instead recognize, reward, and encourage good actions. Clarify with each other what roles you expect to play in the family. Understand male-female differences in communication. "Men talk for information, women talk for interaction," quotes the author from Deborah Tannen's You Just Don't Understand: Women and Men in Conversation. In addition to general gender differences, spouses should understand their individual differences and work with them instead of shouting past them.

As you have come to expect from John Bytheway, this book is both insightful and humorous. He keeps his book light and readable while addressing heavy and often sensitive issues. This book will stay on my bookshelf (except when I'm rereading it). Great reading and thinking material for wives.
