Dan Gurskis has more than twenty years of writing and producing experience in film and television. Education Without Content Bias

Finally, a book that gets to the nitty gritty without innundating you with how a film "should be made." Daniel Gurskis allows the reader the freedom to create whatever content he/she would like while still educating on the invaluable fundamentals of the "short film" format. After (unfortunately) purchasing a few other books on this subject, I sent them all back with the exception of this one.

An author who educates without trying to tell you how to create. Fantastic work, and thank you!

Review of "The Short Screenplay" by Dan Gurskis

This is an excellent "how-to-do-it" book. Writing a short screenplay is especially challenging because there is so little screen time to develop a good plot and tell an interesting story without excessive dialog. The screenplay must evoke a visual experience that guides the director and entertains the audience. The author presents a series of "rules" that can help to achieve good results, but he leaves the subject matter up to the screenwriter. This is as it should be, leaving plenty of room for creative expression. M.H.

Let me start by saying My family is tied heavily to the Apple echo system. Multiple iPads, iPhones, etc. I had added Apple TV in our Family room a couple years ago to my "not so smart TV". This allows streaming from Netflix, Hulu, etc.. We also use the Apple TV mirroring capability for family and friends to share pics and videos on the big screen. It's great with one flaw... Apple TVs lack of amazon prime streaming app. I was forced to mirror Amazon prime from my iOS device to Apple TV. A pain.

When I was in the market for adding a second streaming device to the TV in the bonus room, I thought I would have to choose one feature over the other. Native access to Amazon prime but no IOS mirroring or continue mirroring prime from my IPad?..

After some research, I found this app and decided to go with fire stick. Firestick got me the easy streaming of pay services including Prime and this app lets me mirror IOS on those occasions family and friends want to share content from their IOS devices.

Now let me touch on the app itself..

Good news.. it works for IOS mirroring. Once running on firestick, it appears as another mirroring device on the pop up menu on any iOS device connected to the same network.

Bad news... The interface on the airplay/DLNA receiver app is archaic and messaging is horrible.
Your firestick remote control is not supported for start, stop, pause etc as you have with Apple TV mirroring.
The IOS mirroring feature has a comment that it is "experimental" so slightly worried about sustainable of this core feature.

I would not waste money on this app until it improves

This app does not work for me at all. It will not even display in my macbook's airplay list. I would not waste money on this app until it improves.

**UPDATE** - I contacted WaxRain and they were very helpful with my concern about this app. It appears that Amazon may have sold me the Google Play Store version, as I kept getting a message "This version of AirPin (Pro) is unauthorized. Go to the Google Play Store to purchase". Anyway, to make a long story short, the developer has fixed my issue from what I can tell, and it seems to be working fine now.

Love this app!

Love this app! Streaming from my Macbook Pro to my Fire Stick (gen 1) over a 5G home network. Able to use my HDTV as mirror and secondary display. Using Quicktime player, I can watch full 1080p movies in full screen without any noticble latency or buffering. Definitely worth the $4.99.

An essential purchase for structural FE designers!

This is an excellent introductory text and reference manual for any engineer that performs structural analyses. The fundamentals of finite elements are covered without excessive maths and all the concepts are explained very clearly with reference to real world examples (something that is very lacking in other similar books). If you are looking for a guide on how to perform FEA, how to set up well defined problems, how to choose the correct elements, how to choose the correct solver etc. then this book is for you!

This new edition is a big improvement on the previous edition: the presentation is a lot clearer, the print quality is better and it has been expanded with more examples and also an appendix with extra information on matrices etc. As a design engineer I find myself referring to this book quite a lot (I have owned the first edition for a few year now) and I consult it before I tackle a new problem. The final section with the case studies sums up all the chapters with real world (i.e. practical) examples. Highly recommended!

This book is highly recommended for amateur CAE modelers. And at the same time it is not recommended for college students who had not gone through basic FEA courses or either well versed CAE pundits. That said for those who know the basic FEA principles and want to spread their wings doing some CAE work using Abaqus, Nastran or some other solver its very informative!

Great book! Must have for an Analysis Engineer

This book is very informative and helpful in understanding FEA. It is good to understand FEA theory (code and mathematics), and there are many books written on that subject, but this book will help you understand in a very practical sense what is going on in your analysis.

Just days after the attack on the Federation Capitol and the death of thousands of senators, Tibby accepts the biggest challenge of his life by becoming a Fleet Admiral for Federation. The Brotherhood has commandeered the Star Ship HAPRIN with the intentions of attacking the military, and government facilities, at Plosaxen. Tibby is still at the capitol when he contacts his space yacht, the NEW ORLEANS, which is just finishing up repairs at Nibaria and asks them to fly ahead to Plosaxen and use its Reverse magnetic Force Field shields to deflect shots by the HAPRIN directed at the planet. Meanwhile, Tibby is officially commissioned into the Federation Space Force as a Fleet Admiral by the Senate. He and Kalana use Tibby’s Mirage Fighter, the ALI to join up with the NEW ORLEANS at Plosaxen. Before they arrive, the Brotherhood, on the HAPRIN, is joined by their ally a Tottalax warship. When Tibby and Kalana arrive, the cloaked NEW ORLEANS is taking heavy fire acting as an invisible shield. Tibby and Kalana are forced to remain cloaked themselves while they wait for the battle to wane so they can board the NEW ORLEANS, however, before they can do so the Tottalax unleashes their sleep weapon in an attempt to disable the NEW ORLEANS crew. Tibby and Kalana are rendered unconscious aboard the ALI as ship continues on its flight path after colliding with the Tottalax. Tibby awakens to alarms going off and the ALI is about to crash into a planet. He discovers his ship has apparently been damaged by an impact with the HAPRIN after he and Kalana lost consciousness. Tibby is barely able to make an emergency landing on the remote desert planet aptly named Desolation when Kalana awakens and announces she is going into labor. Tibby must help Kalana deliver the twins; the ALI is unable to take off or fly again, and nearest help is two light-years away Tibby activates an emergency signal for assistance and rescue, knowing it may be years, if ever, that it will be detected and help arrives.
Tibby has no way of knowing what is happening with the war against the Brotherhood. He knows he needs to get back and take command of the 1st fleet but for now he must focus on caring for Kalana and the twins in a hostile environment, with strange nocturnal creatures on a planet that seems dead by day but comes to life after the sun sets. As time progresses, Tibby must deal with the nagging thought of who will hear his emergency message and arrive first, his friends to rescue him, or the Brotherhood that seeks to kill him.

I have been an avid reader of science fiction for over 50 years and in all that time, I have only seen a hand full of science fiction books that incorporate families in the story. In the Solbidyum Wars Saga, starting with book 5, I try a new approach by bringing children into the saga as Tibby and Kalana have twins.� Throughout this book and the rest of the saga, you will get to read about these children growing as seen through the eyes of their father.� Like most fathers, especially those in the military, getting to spend time with one's children is never often enough, but yet bonds are developed, and interactions take place.� I am hoping that by bringing these children into the story it will add an element that will make the stories more realistic, even though they are fiction. I am hoping you will find this addition to the stories interesting and fun, and for those readers who are parents, I hope you can find elements that you can relate to with your own memories of raising your children.� For the rest of you, be assured there still will be plenty of action and intrigue as the war continues to grow, and Tibby leads the battle against the evil Brotherhood.

About the Author
Dale Musser was born in 1944 in a small rural community of Pennsylvania.� From 1967 until 2012 he was employed as a structural and piping designer in the industries of marine and offshore resources, cogeneration power and hard rock mining.� His work at three shipyards and assignments with several engineering and naval architectural firms during his careers in Virginia, Texas, and Maine, took him to such places as London, U.K., Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., Scotland and Mexico.� During this time, he was responsible for the design of reactor compartments for nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines for the U.S. Navy and the structural designs of numerous offshore semi-submersible oil rigs, tanker ships, supply boats, and other vessels and equipment used in the offshore industry.� After the death of his wife in 1999, Mr.�Musser changed careers and went to work in Arizona and Utah in the hard rock mining industry.� He retired in the Fall of 2012 and currently resides in Mesa, Arizona.
Dale enjoys rock hunting and lapidary work, gourmet cooking, writing, poetry, art, music, religions�and philosophy in small doses, astronomy and the sciences in general, hiking, camping, the outdoors and the gifts that nature provides.� Mr.�Musser is a member of Mensa and remains an avid reader, having lost count of all the books he has read after 3,000.
The greatest joy in his life is his daughter, Heather.� Affectionately they call each other "BUBBY."

buckle up and enjoy the ride

Dale-Dale-Dale - brilliantly written, technically-dramatically-comically - I am upset though, as I couldn't put the book down and now have to wait for book 6. All the while, hoping there will be 60 books - the story line you've created is one like I've never experienced before. the depth of characters is phenomenal and your insight to their technology blows me away, this progression seems believable and real. It's also easy to connect with every character, their personalities and emotions bring your books to life. now, I must tell you, I've changed my mind. I've hoped since book one, that your vision makes it to the big screen... A two hour movie, even with sequels will do your books no justice. I'm hoping that one day, everyone will enjoy your stories on the sci-fi channel in a weekly series, that would last several seasons. I eagerly await book 6. Again, great job and thank you for taking my mind on a trip through the Galaxy and beyond.
