This is an awesome book, but not a real second edition

This is an awesome book. Do not be tricked by the three stars. However, be warned, this is not a real second edition. Real second editions correct spelling errors and make the graphs and charts prettier. This is a completely different book under the same title. The first edition is written entirely by Duranti. The chapters include topics such as Theories of Culture, Linguistic Diversity, Meaning in Linguistic Forms, Speaking as Social Action, etc. This "edition" features work by dozens of the best sociolinguistic authors (Hymes, Gal, Hill, Brice Heath ...) and covers Ideal and Real Speech Communities; The Performance of Language: Events, Genres, and Narratives; Language Socialization and Literary Practices; and the Power of Language. This book is vastly better than the first one, but there are decent odds that your professor meant you to buy the first edition (like mine did, whoops). But really, you should fight for the second "edition," it is great.
